from our 2,600 square-foot space,” he said. “So
we went and grabbed some shovels and decided
we were going to do it ourselves instead of paying
someone to do it. And we quickly learned just how
much three inches of packed, rocky dirt over 2,600
square feet of space actually is.”
Luckily, they had a friend who helped them rent a
Bobcat, and what they had thought would be a few
hours of light shoveling ended up being an all day
project. Hard work laid the foundation for many
great years to come.
A New Collaboration over Cold Ones
Since its early days, Pour House has become an
incubator for local entrepreneurs. Two and a half
years ago they formed a partnership with Ginger
Beard Coffee, which allowed them to extend their
open hours by serving coffee in the morning. Now
they will form a similar partnership with Late Start
Brewing.
The new collaboration is with three local brewers
who were a part of Cigar City’s early days. The
Late Start Brewery team consists of Jordan Copher,
Nick Streeter and Tyler Sankey. Together, they
are getting a little bit of a late start in brewing on
their own. However, it has given them the time to
create their beers through experience over the past
5 years. They will not be using gimmicks or beer
slogans, just a laser focus on creating good craft
beer. Their game plan is not to reinvent the wheel,
nor do they claim to be the best. The brewers
simply want to brew beers that they would drink
themselves, which leaves their options pretty wide
open. Customers can look forward to unique brews,
like tequila sunrise and cucumber gimlet goses, and
many other of your favorite styles.
The decision to jump into the brewing game is
perhaps a reflection of the growth of the craft beer
scene in the Tampa Bay area. “I think the amount
of good brewers we have down here stepping
out into their own programs really has made the
area a great beer destination,” Nietzel said. With
the opening of the new brewery, Pour House
has certainly solidified its place as a beer-lover’s
destination in Tampa’s Channel District.
