spot
By Kira Fell
and 8 p.m., and May 28 at 2
& 7 p.m. at Chapman Music
Hall inside the PAC.
The musical tells the story
of brothers Nick and Nigel
Bottom, who are desperate
to write their own smash
hit, beating out “Rock Star”
Shakespeare, who has and
keeps getting all the hits.
TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa’s
Performing Arts Center just
got done being ‘Dirty’…
now the go-to for eastern
Oklahoma theater fanatics
for 40 years takes a chance
at ‘Rotten’.
So ‘Dirty’
“Dirty Dancing; The Classic
Story on Stage” took the
stage at, Tulsa’s PAC April
11-16.
The theater adaptation
isn’t a ‘true’ musical, but
instead tries to duplicate
the 1987 cult classic film.
The show takes us back into
The Catskills Resort, where
the story first took place.
The ‘musical’ includes all
of your favorite characters,
one-liners (“I carried a
watermelon”), sex, romance,
and dancing.
Oh, the dancing! Michele
Lynch’s choreography is
strenuous, to say the least.
From the first scene to the
last, the dancing keeps you
engaged. You see Johnny

Castle first ignore Frances
“Baby” Houseman, then
watch as their relationship
grows dance partners first,
then as lovers throughout the
show.
“Dirty Dancing” was a crowd
favorite, as the crowd roared
when Johnny said “Nobody
puts Baby in the corner.”
Then again, when they finale
performed ‘the lift’ in a
dance routine. Overall, the
stage adaptation delivers a
fun evening reliving Johnny
and Baby at The Catskills for
any “Dirty Dancing” fan.
A foreteller tells the brothers
the future of theater
includes, singing, dancing,
and acting…and the Bottom
Brother’s set out to write the
very first musical.
“Something Rotten” has
proven time and time again
it has all the aspects for
a wonderful production:
dancing, singing, acting,
jokes, and most of all, FUN!
