Renn Fest fever returns to Muskogee

It ’ s time again for the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival and we figure that if we give you a little taste , you ’ ll be hooked and ready to rock any weekend from April 29 – June 4 .
If you ’ ve never been , you need to change your ways . Like , yesterday . The OK Renn Fest is a great time . Dress up , dress in street clothes , it ’ s all good . If you wear something Renn Fest-like , you are more a part of the Renaissance , so we strongly encourage you to do so . Don ’ t have Renn wear ? No problem , just inside the gate is a costume rental shop ; get your gear going and grab your camera for some pics and you ’ ll be set .
So , for 2017 , they ’ re planning for something special each weekend , starting with “ Midsummer ’ s Night ” April 29-30 , “ Romance ” warms our hearts May 6-7 , “ Pirates ”

plunder and pillage ( not really ) May 13-14 , “ Celts ” turn everything blue May 20-21 , the “ Gypsy ” caravans pull in May 27-29 and the “ Last Huzzah ” happens June 3-4 to celebrate the first ever sixth weekend ! Huzzah indeed ! May 5 is Student Day , in case you were wondering .
If you want to make every weekend Renn Fest weekend , we strongly recommend that you invest in a season pass . For less than $ 60 , you can attend any and every day that the Renn Fest is happening , which makes the price to attend about $ 5 per day . For a full day of entertainment , that ’ s dang cheap . Grab your tickets online no matter which day you plan to attend because you ’ ll take $ 2 off the price of each pass . Discounts are also available at local Walgreen ’ s .
The Festival runs 10:30 a . m . – 6 p . m . and along with tickets , you can select from a myriad of activities such as the Pirate ’ s Feast , Masquerade Ball , King ’ s Luncheon or the Queen ’ s Tea , to name a few . These events will cost a few bucks more , but they are all lots of fun and really add to the excitement of your visit .
To make the most of your first-timer experience , you want to try the food . From the turkey legs to the ice cream , everything we ’ ve ever had at the Renn Fest has been some good stuff . If you are with a larger group or have the kids with you , we recommend that you grab a couple different foods and have everyone sample all they have to offer . The food is reasonably priced and you get a good amount . After sampling some choices , you can order what you like best if you ’ re still hungry .

Some hints to make your visit more pleasurable :
• Wear comfortable shoes . We even suggest that you wear socks and shoes that cover your feet over sandals and flip-flops . You ’ ll be doing a lot of walking over different terrains . Heels are definitely a bad idea .
• Dress for the weather , not the season . We went one year when it was cool and rainy and while we had fun , I was glad I wore warm layers and long pants . I saw quite a few people in shorts and tank tops that day looking wet , cold and unhappy .
• Bring extra cash in small denominations and a credit or debit card . While they have ‘ ye ol ATM ’, it ’ ll cost you to use it , and the food vendors are easier to work with if you have cash and drinks are easier to get too . Use your debit card to buy souvenirs or big ticket expenses .
• Bring items you might need : medications , band-aids , aspirin , a change of shoes and a sweater / jacket . Leave them in the car if you like and get your hand stamped if you need to go to the car to drop off your booty or change into different shoes .
