Is it hot in here ( yet )?

It ’ s been a great winter ; working from home has allowed me to keep the home fires burning – literally – and our dependence on propane has been greatly reduced .

But when the ides of March crept up near press time and shot us with one more ( hopefully final ) blast of wintry weather , I got pissed off . I was pretty certain I opened the door to wintry precip in December , January and February , to no avail .

Working on this April issue , though , got me face forward and hustling buns in the opposite direction of winter . Of course , the biggest to-dos pop up in Muskogee with Azalea Festival , the Chili Cook-Off and a nostalgia sparker with The Beach Boys and The Temptations .

There are more festivals which will be easier to digest with the warmer climes , like Red Fern Festival in Tahlequah and the Power of Music Festival in Bentonville . Hell you can even pull out the camping gear and stake it down at Byrdfest or Easter Island , for the time is nigh !

While I get excited with the spring flings popping up all over the radar , it ’ s become quite apparent that local and national comedy acts are helping to ease some of the tension we ’ re experiencing in our collective society , which is why Chris Rock is featured on our cover - the fearless comedian known for pointing out and knocking down barriers . The local comedy scene is flourishing , too , for those needing a more frequent laugh .

So what it all boils down to is this : in times of distress and uncertainty , comedy , music and community will thrive . Nobody can or will ever be able to stop art . Now if we can just get a better handle on this weather we ’ re having …
