BENTONVILLE , Ark . – The Power of Music Festival , presented by Coca Cola and the I ’ ll Fly Away Foundation , takes place in Bentonville April 27-29 , and will present a selection of performers from around the world .
More than 60 songwriters from multiple genres will gather at the festival to celebrate the central place music plays in a wellrounded life . The various artists will play at several locations in the downtown Bentonville area . While most performances have an admission cost , because the festival organizers believe music should part of everyone ’ s lives , performances taking place at Lawrence Plaza are free and open to the public . Working musicians and diehard music fans will recognize names like Tony Arata , Beth Nielsen Chapman , Glen Phillips and Steve Poltz because of their lasting contributions to the craft .
Tony Arata
Tony Arata wrote the 1983 hit song “ The Man in the Mirror ” and then 1990 “ The Dance ” recorded by Garth Brooks became the first of Arata ’ s lyrics to be a No . 1 hit . Brooks has actually cut a total of eight Arata songs .
Beth Nielsen Chapman
Beth Nielsen Chapman has twice been nominated for Grammy Awards . Her work has been used by the likes of Bonnie Raitt , Emmylou Harris , Elton John , Waylon Jennings and several other stars .
Another easily recognizable performer playing the festival is Glen Phillips , who first came to fame as frontman of the alternative rock band Toad The Wet Sprocket .
POM Fest attendees will also enjoy the music of the Accidentals who were Billboard ’ s breakout band at SXSW in Austin in 2015 . Additional festival performers and presenters include Michael Blair , Jerry Salley , Savannah Buist , Dennis Morgan , Richard Leigh , Roger Cook , Larry Cordle , Thom Schuyler , Carl Jackson and Fred Knoblock . POM Fest will also showcase a number of hot young acts and regional up-and-comers like Katie Larson , Michael Dause , Graham Weber ,
Route 358 , Akina Adderley , Jes Raymond , Melody Pond , Doc Fell , Derrick Mears , Some Guy Named Robb , Lance McDaniel , SaulPaul , Joe Mack , Dawn & Hawkes , the ShotGunBillys , Graham Wilkinson , Willi Carlisle , Roger Thomas , and Clayton Chaney .
This festival is an acoustic event to emphasize the words and lyricism being showcased . Many performances will be unique ‘ in the round ’ events where two or three songwriters share the stage and take singing songs and telling the stories that go with their art .
Along with the performances themselves , the event is also a music industry conference with panel discussion including “ How To Build A Music City ” guidance on local scene development , “ Music As A Real Job ” career tips , “ Music That Moves You ” film and television licensing , “ Band On The Run ” touring advice , and “ Mailbox Money ” royalty payments among other topics .
