STILLWATER , Okla . - Every April , music lovers have come together to celebrate the beginning of festival season at the Boogie Down : three days of live music in Stillwater . This year , Boogie Down is moving to Willie ’ s Saloon to take advantage of three separate stages that will bring in more acts than ever before .
“ Stillwater isn ’ t really big enough to have a big music festival ,” said Joe Cervantes , coowner of Willie ’ s . “ So it ’ s just kind of a mini festival to start the season . I ’ m just excited to have it at the new venue . Here , we actually have three spaces that we can utilize : two indoors and one outside .”
The crew at Willie ’ s has been revamping the patio space to prepare for a new stage . This year ’ s Boogie Down will include 31 bands from various genres , including Henry and the Invisibles , the Squashers and Joe Mack .
“ We ’ re going to run it on three separate stages so there won ’ t be a lag between bands ,” said Jade Shultz , co-owner and manager at Willie ’ s . “ You ’ ll be at one stage listening to music , when that ends you can come in to the next stage and bounce back and forth . We ’ re also excited about having local vendors .” “ There are some really cool acts that are coming out of Colorado , out of North Carolina , out of California ,” Shultz said .
“ We have a lot of different genres , too ,” said
Dalton Rasmussen , a manager at Willie ’ s . “ We ’ ve got some country artists , we ’ ve got some jam bands , and some solo artists that play multiple instruments at once and loop artists .
“ Funk you is going to be here , they ’ re a jam band that is really cool . They ’ ve got a unique sound . I know Willie ’ s is known for country music , but it ’ s pretty much all genres now . Which interests more people , brings a more diverse crowd .”
The same weekend , the City of Stillwater is hosting the 40th Annual Stillwater Arts Festival Saturday and Sunday , April 22-23 . Around 100 artists will sell their wares in Downtown Stillwater and compete for cash prizes for best artworks in 2-D and 3-D categories .
The arts festival will also include lots of food vendors and live music . The music will run all afternoon both days , including artists like Monica Taylor and the Red Dirt Rangers .
