Horse shows , racing and rodeos in April , but MAY be a spiffy hat in your future ?

CLAREMORE , Okla . – With the Triple Crown heating up May , April makes for an important time to get your new fancy hat ( don ’ t laugh , pretty hats and the Triple Crown are serious business ) and pick your best bets for win , place and show at the Derby ( May 6 ), Preakness ( May 20 ) and the big one , the Belmont Stakes ( June 10 ). Of course , many Okies ( and Arkies ) prefer to head out to local casinos and sports bars to catch the live action with other horse racing enthusiasts , properly ‘ hatted ’ of course .
We can ’ t give you any tips on the picks for this year ’ s Triple Crown , however , one newcomer , Mastery , the progeny of Candy Ride , is a favorite to take the crown , despite arriving late to the season . We are telling you this because the owner of Mastery and Candy Ride hails from OKC . They are both products of Cheyenne Stables owned by Oklahoman Everett Dobson .

While the payout may not be huge , Mastery ’ s newness might still keep his odds high . It never hurts to show your love of horse and home by putting a few bucks on a local gone big time .
What we are more interested in is the local scene . And there are plenty of places to be seen in that snazzy new hat . We have a local favorite where you can sip a cool drink and watch racing on over 100 screens . Add to that , plenty of dining options at the Dog Iron Saloon and a place to go to relax and freshen up when you reserve an RV space for the night .
Of course , there ’ s more , MUCH more to Okie-dom than horse racing . And , if you really want to bite your nails to the quick , then give a live rodeo your attention . Even if you aren ’ t betting , seeing a rodeo up close and personal is crazy-scary but that ’ s part of the fun of watching . We ’ re throwing some horse shows in too , so get your fill of equine-ness this spring . We ’ d love some great pictures from our rodeo / horse racing fans .
