Dowling , Taylor Take Two Man at Black Hall
Four Advance at Great River Open Qualifier
RESULTS
In weather that felt more like first day of March than last day of April Richard Dowling of eClub of Connecticut and Nick Taylor of the Country Club of Waterbury recorded scores of 69 ( four ball ) and 70 ( alternate shot ) to win the 2018 Two Man Team Championship at Black Hall Club by two shots . The teams of Steve Gettings

Dowling and Taylor trailed by three after round one , thanks to a remarkable — given the cold , windy conditions — 66 in the four ball round by Gettings / Giulietti .
The winners needed only 28 putts in the afternoon . They made critical saves on their 11th , 12th and 13th holes on the way to the only subpar round in alternate shot . “ That series of holes was big ,” said Taylor . “ Then we capped it off with a birdie on 14 .”
The “ home ” team of Bill Hermanson and Phil Perry , who have won 34 of the last 40 club championships at Black Hall , shot 69-73 to finish at even par . “ The weather made it tough ,” said Hermanson , the tournament ’ s honoree , “ two or three shots tougher anyway .”
Patrick Langan , left , an assistant professional at the Country Club of Purchase , New York , and a Ridgefield native , shot 69 to lead all qualifiers at Great River Golf Club to advance to sectional qualifying next month at Canoe Brook Country Club in New Jersey . Like shot one-under 35 on the difficult front nine , 34 on the back to become the only qualifer in the 60s . Also advancing were professionals Mike Ballo of Stamford and Ross Kronberg of Stamford , who each shot 70 , and John Martinchek of Vernon , who won the final spot in a playoff with David Pastore of Greenwich . Each shot 71 . Pastore and Geno Giancola of New Britain earned alternate spots .
