THE INSIDE SCOOP Stay Connected with the CSGA Adam Rainaud Qualifies for PGA Championship A dam Rainaud, defending Connecticut Open Championship, earned one of twenty available spots at the PGA Professional Championship to earn his second berth in the PGA Championship. Rainaud, who also qualified in 2015 and played the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, shot rounds of 73-71-69-73--286 at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon to finish in a tie for fifth place. Now an Assistant Golf Professional at Winged Foot Golf Club, Rainaud (Chester, Conn.) will be defending his Connecticut Open title in the week leading up to the PGA Championship at Ellington Ridge Country Club, where he hopes to be the first player since Nick Cook (2005-06) to successfully defend. He is one of three players from Winged Foot competing in the Connecticut Open, joined by 1993 Champion Mike Gilmore and 2006 Connecticut Junior Amateur Champion Mike Ballo, Jr. CSGA Member Unveils New Book on Rules of Golf A new book about the Rules of Golf came out this year. It’s completely current, addressing all the latest 2017 updates to the 2016 rules, and covers the recently announced 2019 proposals the USGA and R&A recently offered up for public comment as well. The book was written by Howard J. Meditz of Sterling Farms Golf Course, a Rules Official for several of our nearby State and Regional Golf Associations. More than simply interpreting the rules, Meditz seduces readers with a combination of humor and his obvious affection and respect for the rules. The book touches on the history of the rules, how appreciation for the rules can lead to scoring better under pressure, and how, with the right attitude, you can even enjoy the game more by adhering to them. “How to Love the Rules of Golf” also delves into common frustrations that players experience: the dreaded Stroke and Distance penalty, the frustrating absence of free relief from fairway divot holes, and of course the absence of free relief from tree roots as the picture on the cover of the book ironically reminds us all. In this issue of the CSGA Links Magazine, Meditz is a contributing guest writer for our Rules Corner. www.csgalinks.org CSGA Links // July, 2017 | 7
