Changes to Final Women’s State Team Selection
T
he United States Golf Association recently announced the retirement of the State Team
Championships after the conclusion this year’s Women’s State Team Championship in Santa Fe,
New Mexico, September 26-28. Originally created to celebrate the USGA’s centennial in 1995,
the State Team Championships became increasingly popular among players and State and Regional
Golf Associations throughout the country. Like many states, Connecticut adopted a point system for
non-collegian amateurs to make the men’s and women’s teams. In the past, the Women’s team has been
selected based on the top three point earners, but for the final year of competition in the State Team
Championship, the women’s team will now include a committee selection pick.
“We are excited for the opportunity to be able to send a team to compete in the Women’s State
Team Championship one last time,” said Daniela Lendl, Director of Women’s Golf & Member Services for
the CSGA. “We believe that the addition of a committee selection pick will allow Connecticut the chance
to send our most competitive team to New Mexico in September.”
As in previous years, the Women’s State Team will be comprised of the top two players in the
Women’s State Team point standings on September 1. Players are encouraged to continue submitting
their results through the SNEWGA website as they have been doing in the past to ensure that the point
standings are accurate.
