Friday, October 2nd Brooklawn Country Club for members of all skill levels to play,” says Green Superintendent Peter Bly, one of only four in the club’s history, “but it’s also a great venue for competition. We want to remind the world of that.” This year’s field will be limited to 24 teams made up of both Brooklawn members and at-large bids comprising top golfers in the Connecticut and Met Sections. Going forward, the plan is to gradually grow the field, with invites going primarily to amateur champions in Northeast. There is a minimum age of 25 and the expectation is that this year’s maximum index of 4.5 will decrease given the caliber of golfer that will be attracted to the competition. It is highly likely that a senior division will be added as well. “We hope folks will come out and watch,” says tournament co-chair Giles Payne, a former president of the club and longtime competitive amateur player. “It represents a chance for Brooklawn to both give back and, frankly, show off a bit. We feel like it all adds up to growing the game.” www.csgalinks.org CSGA Links // September, 2015 | 43
