What’s Left?
John Flaherty has had a banner year, finishing second in both the
Russell C. Palmer Cup and the Connecticut Open Championship. He
also claimed medalist honors at the Connecticut Amateur before
falling in the Round of 32.
With only five CSGA championships left on the schedule, players hoping to catch Flaherty will have
to make their move quickly. Among the chasers with a chance to overtake the top spot include Dave
Szewczul, who is the only player in the top 5 that will be competing in both the Connecticut MidAmateur Championship and Tournament of Champions. Currently in 3rd place with 411 points, a win
at the Connecticut Mid-Amateur would give Szewczul 250 points, while a win at the Tournament of
Champions would give him 100 points. Szewczul also qualified for the U.S. Senior Amateur, where a win
would give him 400 points.
