CHAMPIONSHIPS 12th Russell C. Palmer Cup May 18th - 19th at Country Club of Waterbury (Waterbury, Conn.) Who Can Play: The championship is open to all amateurs in Connecticut who hold an active handicap at a CSGA member club with a handicap index not exceeding 6.4. Last Year’s Championship: In 2014, Blake Morris of Country Club of Waterbury shot rounds of 76-67-68-211 (+4) and defeated Monte Mullen and John Flaherty, both of TPC River Highlands, on the third playoff hole to capture his first CSGA major championship. One Quick Fact: The 2015 Russell C. Palmer Cup, the 12th annual, will mark the seventh time that the Country Club of Waterbury has hosted the event. 17th Connecticut Women’s Open May 26th - 27th at Golf Club of Avon (Avon, Conn.) Who Can Play: The Championship is open to any amateur or professional female golfer and is the CSGA’s only championship that is open to nonresidents of Connecticut. Last Year’s Championship: In 2014, Carmen Bandea of Johns Creek, Georgia defeated four-time Champion Liz Caron of Greenwich, Conn. on the 3rd playoff hole to capture the 16th Connecticut Women’s Open. One Quick Fact: The Golf Club of Avon has previously hosted eight CSGA Major Championships - the Connecticut Open in 1957, 1967, 1978 and 2001, and the Connecticut Senior Amateur in 1965, 1976, 1991 and 2012. 9th Senior Match Play Championship June 1st - 3rd at Golf Club at Oxford Greens (Oxford, Conn.) Who Can Play: The championship is open to CSGA amateurs ages 55 and over who hold an active handicap index not exceeding 14.0. Last Year’s Championship: In 2014, Dave Szewczul of Tunxis Plantation Country Club captured his third straight Senior Match Play Championship, defeating Jon Groveman of Connecticut Golf Club on the 18th hole. Szewczul would go on to capture his record sixth consecutive Dick Siderowf Senior Player of the Year title. One Quick Fact: The GC at Oxford Greens hosted its first CSGA major championship last year, the 2014 CT Public Links, won by Glen Boggini. 74th Connecticut Junior Amateur July 6th - 9th at Watertown Golf Club (Watertown, Conn.) Who Can Play: The championship is open to CSGA amateurs ages 17 and under who hold an active handicap index not exceeding 15.0. Last Year’s Championship: In 2014, Evan Grenus of TPC River Highlands became just the sixth player in tournament history to claim medalist honors and the tournament title in the same year. One Qui
