Golf & Travel ~ Tampa, Florida
Where to Play?
Designed by Bobby Weed (who also designed TPC
River Highlands) and Chi Chi Rodriguez, TPC Tampa
Bay hosted a Champions Tour event from 1992 until
2013, most recently the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am.
It’s routed through natural wetlands, and water comes
into play on 15 holes. The ninth, a 472-yard dogleg
left with a water hazard running nearly its length
and protecting the dogleg, gets most of the notoriety
because it’s practically unreachable against the wind
for the average player.
Round Two: If you’ve got an extra day, be sure to check
out Streamsong Resort, host of the 2017 U.S. Women’s
Amateur Four-Ball Championship. The two courses (Red
and Blue) were ranked #1 and #3 in all of Florida for
public courses, and it’s been proclaimed the “Bandon
Dunes of the East”. Need we say more?
Where to Stay?
If you’re looking for first-class treatment, the Seminole
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa is the spot. It’s rated
one of the best hotels in Florida and offers plenty of
amenities, not the which of least is a world famous spa,
pool, and the world’s sixth largest casino. Plus, it’s just
seven miles from Tampa’s Busch Gardens, making it the
perfect location for golfers and families alike.
Where to Eat?
Everywhere you go, there’s
plenty of four and five star
restaurants that will cost
you an arm and a leg. But if
you want to try something
unique, the Taco Bus in
Tampa is one of a kind. It
originated in a refurbished
school bus and while it currently has five brick-andmortor buildings, it still has buses that travel around
the city delivering some of the best mexican food you’ve
ever tasted. It was even featured on Diner’s Drive-In’s
and Dives - Guy Fieri tabbed it as “the best torta I’ve
ever had.”
