William and Chris Simione Win 78th Father & Son Championship
O
ne hundred six of the state’s top father and son teams teed off at Lyman Orchards Golf
Club for the 78th Father & Son Championship. Conducted by the Connecticut State Golf
Association, the Father & Son Championship is one of the state’s oldest championships
and annually draws the best Father/Son teams from the state to compete in a Modified Alternate
Shot format.
Heavy overnight rain threatened to suspend play throughout the morning, but the wet
conditions didn’t affect the team of William and Chris Simione, who made their way around the
par-72, 6,486 yard Jones Course in two under-par 70 for a one shot victory.
After starting off slow with a pair of bogies on the 1st and 5th hole, the Simiones quickly
rebounded with a birdie on the par-4 6th hole. The team made the turn in one over-par and trailed
the clubhouse lead by two shots heading into the back nine. They would go on to birdie the 10th,
11th and 12th holes, catapulting them into the lead. A string of six pars, including a par at the
difficult par-5 18th was enough for a one stroke victory and the title.
