Championship Quick Facts About the championship This year marks the 80th playing of the Connecticut Open Championship, which was first played in 1931 and captured by Henry Ciuci at the Course at Yale. The tournament is the only one of its kind on the CSGA Championship calendar, as it welcomes both amateurs and professionals from Connecticut to compete against each other in a 54-hole stroke play format. Amateur competitors for this year’s championship must have an active USGA handicap at a CSGA member club not exceeding 6.4, while professional competitors must either reside in Connecticut, be employed at a CSGA member club, or be a member of the Connecticut Section PGA. The championship is contested over 54-holes of stroke play, with 150 players vying for the title. Professionals will be playing for a total of $50,000, the highest purse in championship history, with the champion taking home a winner’s check of $12,500. The remaining 59 players were exempt from qualifying based on the criteria set forth by the Competitions Committee. Monday, July 28th - First Round, 18 Holes Tuesday, July 29th - Second Round, 18 Holes **The low 40 players including ties will advance to the final round on Wednesday, July 30th. Starting times will be reassigned following the cut based on scores with the leaders teeing off last. Wednesday, July 30th - Final Round, 18 Holes The player with the lowest 54-hole total will be declared the champion.
