A First : Fairview Farm to Host First CSGA Championship

On August 20th - 21st , the state ’ s top amateur golfers will gather in Harwinton for the 26th Connecticut Mid-Amateur Championship at Fairview Farm Golf Course . The Mid-Amateur Championship is open to bona fide members of a CSGA club who are twenty five years of age and over by the start of the tournament .
Construction of the Fairview Farm Golf Course began in October , 1998 , when owner Bob Ferrarotti purchased what had been a dairy farm from the Delay family . All eighteen holes of the championship layout was completed and opened for play in 2000 . The Mid-Amateur will be the first CSGA major championship hosted by the club , having previously hosted a US Public Links Qualifier and a CSGA One Day Tournament .
Last year , Brian Ahern of Wampanoag Country Club captured his second Mid-Amateur title in three years , defeating 2012 Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year Dave Szewczul of Tunxis Plantation Country Club on the second playoff hole . Ahern also won the Mid-Amateur Championship in 2010 at Rockrimmon Country Club .
The tournament was first held at Shennecossett Golf Course in 1988 , where Daniel Hendrickson captured the championship on his home course . Since its inception , the tournament has been won by many of the states top amateur competitors , including Bill Hermanson ( 1990 , 1991 , 1992 , 1993 , 2001 ) and Jeff Hedden ( 2002 , 2005 , 2006 , 2009 ).
Fairview Farm Golf Course will be set up at 6,619 yards and will play to a par of 36-36--72 . For more information on the Connecticut Mid-Amateur Championship , visit ctmidam . com .
