I t was the first time in a long time I checked a bag with United . I religiously aim to bring only a carry-on on any adventure I take – after all the adventure is never in the items you bring , but in the experiences you take home with you . However , this adventure was a bit different . I had just decided to move across the country without a place to call home and to work at a job I knew very little about . That checked bag held countless items of clothing that I intended to layer daily in a city I had only read about . A style that I was told was essential in my new city ’ s climate , San Francisco .
As I waited for the sage colored roller bag to come rounding the corner , I couldn ’ t help but think , “ Getting your bag is the easy part , Madison . Next up , finding something called BART to take you to your unseen temporary home in Oakland . Stay focused .” As I prepared for my next move , my thoughts were interrupted by the woman waiting for her bag next to me .
