SIGNATURE EVENTS AN ABUNDANCE OF FESTIVALS AND EVENTS Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Race March 5–8, Fort Kent brings local communities and visitors together in celebration of everything from potatoes to ploye, from “midsommar” to winter. Midsommar Festival June 17–18, New Sweden Maine Potato Blossom Festival July 8–16, Fort Fairfield Crown of Maine Balloon Fest August 24–27, Presque Isle Aroostook County Brew & Wine Fest October 14, Presque Isle July 2017 marks the 70th anniversary of one of our premier events, the Potato Blossom Festival. This nine-day celebration, hosted by the town of Fort Fairfield, features more than 100 events, performances, pageants, contests, fireworks, and one of the largest parades in northern New England, plus a large food court, arts and crafts, vendors, exhibitors, and an expansive beer garden. Don’t miss mashed potato wrestling and the potato-picking contest! Other don’t-misses: Houlton’s Midnight Madness and Agricultural Fair, both family-fun events; Presque Isle’s gorgeous Crown of Maine Balloon Festival; and Madawaska’s 40th Acadian Festival, chock-full of activities. Fort Kent holds its popular Muskie Derby & Ploye Festival in August, featuring massive ployes and bragging rights among fishermen. Midsommar Festival is a celebration of the Swedish heritage through fun, food, dance, and song.
