With the amount of fake news being posted on social media and the internet in general, I feel like we need a refreshing wind. A re- vivifying wind. A wind called: facts. And if you think: “facts… well interesting, but I came here for my entertainment”, don’t worry you are still at the right address. Because in this article, we list some of the most remarkable fun facts/stories that are related to graduation and the alumni life. Did you know that actor James Franco was invited to speak at UCLA’s commencement ceremony in 2009; the university from which he graduated the year before. The offer however, was rescinded by UCLA because of Franco’s general “lack of solemnity”. Which is a fancy phrase for saying that he is best friends with Seth Rogen, which is a cryptic way of saying he smokes marijuana. The repeal is a shame, because the actor would have ascended the podium as the youngest person and most recent graduate ever selected to deliver a commencement speech at UCLA. Luckily, Franco posted a video on the internet in which he is practicing his speech. It is no “I have a Dream” by Martin Luther King Jr., but it is pretty close. 35 The medal, or collar if you will, for most unusual graduate has to be granted to Fudge. Fudge is a guide dog that was a paramount asset in his owner’s academic journey of attaining his Design and Digital Arts degree. Fudge’s owner, Mr. Proctor, stated “It’s as much his degree as it is mine. He put in a lot of work and was really well behaved. He went above and beyond so it’s really nice to have him with me”. With specially adapted gowns and caps, Fudge was able to join his owner up on to the stage so they both could receive their well-earned certificates. Let’s hope this initiative starts a trend: graduation gowns for man’s best friend!
