our lineage of celebrity includes your grandfather;
your parents and you have a brother who’s on
Television in Europe. It’s not surprising that you
too courted a Television and Film career. One could say that
seeking an acting profession was simply in your blood. Did you
feel that acting was your calling when you took that route, or
was it more of an inference that you would be an actor given
your family history?
I feel very fortunate to have had the experience of watching
my grandfather and my parents navigate success. They were
always very humble, kind to their public and genuine both in
private and in public. Those are the lessons that I take with me
now. Doesn’t matter if you’re on TV or just interacting with
people on daily basis, it’s important to be genuine and authentic
regardless. Definitely good lessons that I’ve learned. To be
honest with you I never considered acting as a profession. It’s
just something that I always did since I was a child. When I was
in college, I studied psychology and then ended up going to get
my Master’s degree in fine arts in acting. I had been working
as a professional actor concurrently throughout high school
and college, so the transition actually ended up being very
natural. Most of my family had been acting overseas back in
Pakistan; I was the first to attempt my hand and acting here in
the States. When I told my family that I wanted to be in actor,
they actually tried to get me to change my mind because they
understood what a difficult profession I was getting myself into.
"To me he was just my grandfather. But he was also my biggest
advocate and getting involved in the entertainment industry."
