MCA NEWS

Q. How old are you, and what grade are you in?

A: I am 13, and in 7th grade

Q. When was the spelling bee?

A: The school wide one was the 17th on January. The county bee was the 11th of February.

Q. What was the winning word?

A: I don’t remember exactly, but I think one of the last was cyanide.

Q. Did you study a lot before hand?

A: No, I just skimmed the words list.

Q. Do you have any tips for people who are thinking about entering spelling bees?

A: Yes, be confident, study word lists, close your eyes and picture the word in your head, and ask helpful questions like ‘What’s the definition?’

Q. What were you thinking after you had won?

A; That it was going to be harder in the next one.

Q. What was going on in your head between words?

A: Please spell it wrong. I wanted it to be over quick.

Q. How nervous were you in the days before hand?

A: Not at all really. I knew I was going to win.

Q. Will you want to do any more in the future?

A: Of course, and next time I won’t lose the county bee.
