And I think eventually I discovered the true
nature of what I was doing. If you want to build
thing, you need a stable foundations. If you don’t
do things thoroughly, it might be fine then, but
like in three or ten years, you never know what
little shake might do to that loose bolt. If you
don’t do things thoroughly, it might be fine for
now, but in three or ten years, you never know
what little shake might do to that loose bolt.
You’ve chosen to live in LA, a city full of cars,
your studio is in downtown LA, but you don’t
drive and ride your bike everywhere. Was this
a conscious choice? And how does it inform
your everyday?
Yes it was a conscious choice. Before I decided
to move to LA, I was riding my bicycle all the
time; it was kind of my dream. Korea has 4
seasons so it makes it difficult to ride all the time.
However LA is always mostly sunny so I was
really looking forward to being able to ride my
bicycle all the time. And secondly, I knew a car
would be a big financial liability when I wouldn’t
be having a stable job. I was looking into doing
all the things that were considered not ideal or
financially unstable; haha .I had to plan my day
perfectly before I left my house. Because without
a car, stopping by home or going spontaneously
grocery shopping was a great luxury. If somebody
wanted to change the location of a meeting it was
devastating; haha.
However it gave me time to process and think
about stuff. It gave me physical strength and also
relieved stress. It feels so good to be on your bike
on a nice day. It gave me so much freedom and
restrictions at the same time. I thought I went
around fairly far, but driving a car made me
realize that I was in the well. This is why I have
to experience more. The best way to break out of
my little world is to have eye opening
experiences.
