‘If I find her I will let you know she is alright. I haven’t sorted out what to tell my client if I
find her. But if I think she is in danger I ‘ll do the right thing.’
That seemed to satisfy her. She then went on to tell me that Twilight was also called Charlotte,
but she couldn’t say whether that was her real name either. It turns out Twilight, or Charlotte,
had disrupted Tully’s universe by seeking employment at the Carlyle. That lead to a torrid
romance that Tully kept secret as there were some heavy hitters who seemed to be enthralled
with Charlotte as well; and they were, shall we say, a bit more possessive in their interests. Not
wanting to mess up her business Tully acquiesced when a few of these patrons demanded
Twilight stop working. Tully wasn’t sure who came out on top in the love triangle. She had her
suspicions and she knew she had lost. But it didn’t matter because Twilight stopped coming into
the club altogether. Tully admitted she had actually feared the worst until I came sniffing.
‘Is there anything else you have that can help me?’
‘Have you spoken with Digby?’
‘You’re the only person I have spoken to so far. Whose Digby?’
‘Some Private Dick you are Stone. Digby is the photographer who took the photos? Or did you
think I took them?’
She had me there. I hadn't thought to ask who took the photos. I actually thought Brevis
might have taken them. But at least now another lead. ‘I deserve that. Where do I find this
Digby?’
Tully pulled out a small slip of paper and a pen from her purse. She scribbled down Digby’s
name and a few other scribbles and slid the paper across to me. ‘Find her Stone,’ she said
imploringly, ‘Find her!’
