N ouveau Noir! Interview - Toledo TC - You’ve worked as a dancer and/or choreographer for an amazing list of entertainers, Janet Jackson, Sammy Davis Jr., Diana Ross, Bonnie Raitt, Al Green and the list goes on - what
did you bring from those experiences into your show? Toledo - I remember watching Sammy Davis Jr. Perform night after night for two weeks doing two 2hour shows a night bringing everything he had and leaving everything he had right there on stage and I thought this is the kind of performer I wanna be , same thing I thought when I watched the Pointer sisters -no smoke and mirrors no bullshit just straight passion coming at you live!" TC - Did you ever think then that you’d still be doing it this long? Toledo - I never thought about it one way or another, I just do it. TC - You have various female performers in your show - what’s your selection process for your dancers/performers? Toledo - I never really audition people I either like someone or I don't and if I do and you say you do something creative then you're in with me. People of the same cloth always find each other with out really trying I believe. TC - Do the songs work as a story thread through the show or are they independent in nature? Toledo - There is an underline thread that weaves through the show and continues from show to show. Continued on page 52 36 THE CONE - ISSUE #3 - AUTUMN 2014
