You create a very special type of special effects for film, television and stage, what is the best way to describe the types of effects you and your staff craft? At NewRuleFX.com we do all sorts of props and effects, however we mainly specialize in special effects props, many in the breakaway and stunt category. Any time you see an action sequence that involves breaking of glass, ceramic, rocks, bricks, even marble, generally you're actually seeing a special effect prop that has been built for the purpose of being broken. We make these types of props so that the actors and stunt persons involved in a scene are safe. Instead of having sharp pieces of real broken glass laying around the set for example, you have harmless plastic resins that break easily and can be simply swept up off the floor, or even picked up by hand. If you’ve ever tried to break, say, a beer bottle, you’ve probably been surprised at how hard it is to break. Real glass is pretty tough, and it’s pieces are generally very sharp. A breakaway bottle is much safer and much easier to break. We also produce a wide range of breakaway wood props such as furniture, set pieces, and other props. Those are generally made from Balsa wood. We craft them all by hand here at our shop. 69 THE CONE - ISSUE #9 - SPRING 2016
