The Cone Issue #9 Spring 2016 | Page 3

From the Editor’s Desk It is hard to believe Spring is once again upon us. Which means we are celebrating 3 years of The Cone magazine. It has been a very busy start to the season here at ProSeed Books; with the launch of our latest book campaign - “Card Kingdoms”, and the exhibition that will mark it’s official release at the end of May and of course putting together this issue. Needless to say the candle has been burning at both ends these last few months and there have been moments of pure fatigue and pure joy. Probably not unlike what many craftspersons feel as they work in their shops, boutiques, ateliers, garages, wherever they create the magic that is their specialty. I am always impressed by the immense dedication artisans have, the amount of labor, discipline and love that has to go into every piece to make it just right. There are no doubt trials and tribulations in the process, errors and eureka moments and when all is said and done it is all worth it. I hope so anyway. Sometimes just doing a thing is worth more than the end results. So our Spring Issue, our 3rd Anniversary Issue, is dedicated to Craftspersons/Artisans who follow a calling and make things of unique value, if only because of the personal care given to their creations. These are not always small operations as there are larger entities where each person works their magic on a piece that will ultimately pass through several hands before it can be held by a consumer. There was a time when not everything was “made in China” and the leather, and woodworker were appreciated for their craftsmanship in the way we laud celebrity chefs today. The pendulum has been swinging back in this direction and I for one am happy to see it. Photo by D!gby 3 THE CONE - ISSUE #9 - SPRING 2016
