The Cone Issue #8 Winter 2016 | Page 97

My ongoing search for a great bean to use with my own espresso machine brought me to Verve Coffee Roasters. Originating in Northern California, Verve has 3 locations in Santa Cruz, 3 in Los Angeles and this spring will be opening one in Tokyo. I visited the one on 3rd street (near the Grove). Parking at this location is tricky, even with the parking they have in back, but once you’re in it is well worth the hassle. Bright, open with knowledgeable and friendly Baristas you will get a great cup of coffee at Verve. Like most cafes they carry the various ancillary products like caps, tea pots, etc. Their beans, at least the “Street Blend” is great for home espresso makers, pulling a decent crema almost every time. Quiet, it can be good for studying, though the food fare is not extensive enough for a long haul session. Downtown denizens can find one on Spring St, and there is also one on Melrose Ave. 97 THE CONE - ISSUE #7 - FALL 2015
