Message From Your Inner
Lounge Singer
Your inner lounge singer called
left a message like a torch song
she said
she needs a red dress
and a mother-of-pearl cigarette holder
By E. Amato
heels with sparkles and straps
she said never sing if it ain’t your key
and always know your key
in fact
don’t leave home without it
she said the hair should match the dress
with highlights like the shine of the cigarette
holder
she says too many flowers have been taken
so just go for gemstones when adorning the coif
she said
the rules are
you don’t come with anybody
and you don’t leave with anybody
you are your own best company
but you know a quiet place to meet a good
time.
She said a smile is a weapon carrying
a thousand bullets
etch your name on each one
handle the microphone like a
microphone
sometimes a cigar is
just a cigar.
She said she called because you seem to
have forgotten her number
and that makes her sad. So sad.
Mope around the house in robe and fuzzy
slippers sad.
She said cut it out.
She said
the stockings should be sheer with a little
bit of dazzle
and last she said
don’t forget the words.
Never forget the words,
but if you do use smile number 762 and
purr like a prairie cat on a hot night.
