The Cone Issue #7 Fall 2015 - Food | Page 3

From the Editor’s Desk Fall is my favorite time of year! I spoke of this before in last year’s Fall issue so I won’t go into how much I love the crisp chill in the air, or wearing my scarves, or how a perfect Fall afternoon isn’t complete without a large mug of Hot Chocolate. I won’t really go into that because here in Los Angeles the Fall temperatures have been in the 90s with almost everyone bemoaning the latest heatwave to have swept over us. So instead I will speak to one of the other things dear to my heart - FOOD! Food glorious food, to steal a phrase from a musical, is this issue’s loose theme. One of my favorite places to be is in the kitchen preparing a new recipe off the top of my head and being rewarded when it all comes out as planned. The kitchen has always been my Zen place, where nothing else matters but the task in front of me in the preparation a meal. I love the entire process from the planning of the menu, the selection of just the right ingredients and of course the best of all being able to feed my friends. Making a meal for someone is I believe one of the purest expressions of love. So in this issue we’ve prepared an eclectic meal for you - you’ll be able to feast your eyes on some gastronomic photography, you’ll get your caffeine kicks in our Coffee House Confidential and our resident Gourmand Edgar Cayago will take you on a Global Feast by regaling some of his more memorable travel meals. Our Poet Laureate Gary D. Johnson shows us that a man does not live on verse alone as he shares, in humorous fashion, a recounting of his travels in Greece. We’ll introduce you to two pairs of women entrepreneurs who are making a difference in the world in their own ways and a beautifully shot photographic project merging nature and the human body. All this and much more, so leave room, take it all in and I hope you’ll leave full, happy and looking forward to what we’ll serve up next time. Photo by D!gby 3 THE CONE - ISSUE #7 - FALL 2015
