The Cone Issue #6 Summer 2015 - Travel | Page 99

Kotor, Montenegro Stepping off the cruise ship tender into the small, ancient city of Kotor, Montenegro, Sarah and I were immediately taken back to a bygone era. The rough stone walls and cobblestone footpaths that crossword STAMP puzzled through the small town had none of the texture or technology of our home country. The shopkeepers passed time slowly sweeping with straw brooms, the ever-present fertile cats nestled and slept in every crevice, and the aromas of fresh food wafted through the streets. We had garlic grilled fresh fish for lunch that was the best we have ever experienced. This little jewel of the Mediterranean was the one stop on our European vacation that we saved from a hurried, guided tour. We chose to wander casually through the streets and stores, admiring the local artistry, the ancient buildings as well as this proud old clock tower that greets guests at the town’s stone walled gates.
