From the Editor’s Desk
It’s Summer and that means that I want to be on a plane, or a
train, or a boat heading off to somewhere. To someplace I have
never been or someplace I have been but have yet to fully
explore. Of late the journey has been on the back of my Harley
Davidson motorcycle as I travel back country roads along
California farmlands or through picturesque canyons with
majestic mountains. Luckily I have found myself these last four
years being able to journey at Summer’s end to Burning Man in
the Black Rock desert, an event that always holds new things to
discover, not only of place but of self. Journeys, exploration and
discoveries are the loose themes for this Summer’s issue of The
Cone. Broad categories that can encompass anything from travel
across vast lands, to a trip to a new part of town; from
discovering some previously unknown gem of a place or a
new insight into ones self. I often feel the best journeys
are the ones that involve a combination of them all. In this
issue we’ll help you look at the world from a more “micro”
perspective, we’ll discover “A Heart of Africa” through the
beautiful photo essay from photographer Tassouman,
TASTE will make your taste buds want to explore a
delightful dessert, dive into the short stories in our
Original Works Shorts section and as always there is so
much more to explore in the pages of The Cone.
