Do you feel the amount of dedication it takes to be a professional singer is similar to becoming an actor or is there something uniquely different to both paths? Any form of art requires time and dedication. Even if you have the talent and ability to do it easier than others you still need to train yourself and work hard. The preparation to be a professional singer has some similarities with acting in terms of rehearsal, training, coaching, body work…but what you should keep in mind is the final goal, where are all of these things leading you to. Both professions require dedication but I think professional singing takes more of your time and energy if you want to do it well. For instance, acting is very intense work for awhile, let’s say while you’re shooting a film or a TV series. But then you stop till the next one. Professional singing implies, among other things, a recording process with all its takes and hours in the studio and a series of concerts, if you’re on tour it could take a year to finish it. And in each concert you have a set of 25 songs, let’s say, so you have to give all your power for each and every song during the 2 hours of the concert. An actor has to be ready to change his face, body, accent or way of walking if the script calls for it. If the character is like that. A singer has to stay fit and in good shape always, cause besides your talent you are also selling your image. You are not playing a part in a movie, you are the movie. 44 THE CONE - ISSUE #10 - SUMMER 2016
