Art & Artists TC - What does the title ‘Adrift’ mean in terms of the type of pieces you exhibited? LB “Adrift” refers to the main inspiration for the pieces in the series, which is travel. They are all based on my recent travels over the past few yea rs. Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam and some of them are from Joshua Tree (one of my go to places to get out of LA) and even Los Angeles. So I guess it’s about a journey through the world but also through your imagination. Letting your body and mind wander. TC - You have a growing audience of admirers, you have iPhone skins and prints and now a solo show - what’s next up for your work? Where would you like to take it? LB I really want to continue doing work influenced by my traveling. And I want to take it to a more international level. I want to contact galleries in Japan actually and see if they’d be interested in showing my work. I’ve been working on finding a gallery in Paris as well. That was put on pause for a while but I’d like to get back into that. Then I have a side project possibly involving graphic novels that I want to explore. But that’s still only in development in my head. I’d like to try and take my work into that world though. Copyright - Liz Brizzi 33 THE CONE - ISSUE #1 - SPRING 2014
