Have you ever thought of going back to work
in a traditional law firm?
Everyone has a different set of priorities in life and evidently it
changes as your life progress. Some colleagues cite lack of career
satisfaction while others could not bear the constant transference as the
reason to leave the public sector. At this point of time, I have no plans or
reason to leave the JLS yet. I believe that I could contribute more to the
society as a public servant. Perhaps I would join a traditional law firm after
retirement from JLS as to fulfill my ambition as an international arbitration
lawyer.
Career Advice
As I mentioned earlier, “ASK” is a very important term that ought to
be remembered regardless whether you will be in the public or private
sector. Be sure to have the right mentality and carry yourself with good
attitude as you step into the working world. It is a growing concern in the
legal industry that many young graduates have rather high technical skills
but lack soft skills which is necessary in an organisation. I think that by
joining team sports or other social activities at the university level would be
an avenue to enhance a person’s set of soft skills. Resilience and humility,
among others are qualities that an employee must be able to reflect
especially working in a pressured circumstance. Whatever it is, just
remember to always be yourself and be a person of substance.
Lastly, thank you to The Communique for giving me this
opportunity to share about experiences and career background in the
judicial service. I do hope that the information shared will give some idea to
the readers about the profession and perhaps encouraged some of you to
apply for an attachment programme at the Federal Court of Malaysia. Good
luck and I wish you success in all your future endeavors.
