To date, the True Fitness case is the largest and most prolific case that our
firm has taken on. We are currently representing over 500 individuals in
Malaysia and we have just successfully obtained leave to commence
proceedings. I can’t comment much here as proceedings are still ongoing.
Suffice to say, we will see to it that justice is done for all members within
the boundaries of the laws. Alex Netto and I are the lawyers handling the
case and we both hope to do our best for the affected members who have
come on board with us on the legal action.
A Career on the Other Side?
Prior to choosing the legal path, I toyed about the idea of going into either
journalism or being a news/radio broadcaster. Despite that, even if I were
given the opportunity to turn back time, I wouldn’t have opted out to
work in a non-legal field. The thought of me being a layman (who knows
nothing about the law) scares me. So, I am thankful that life has given me
the opportunity to pursue my passion.
There are of course pros and cons when choosing whether to work in a
traditional law firm or a non legal career. Differences are small, but both
have pros in their respective areas. At the end, it’s about one’s preference.
My Advice to You
Try what you know and feel is best for you and not worry about what
other people might or might not say. If things do not work out in the way
you like it, then it’s always never too late to change but do it with sense of
purpose and not just change because you don’t like it. Have a game plan.
I have been told by my seniors that the legal profession is an unforgiving
one. It demands a lot of you. It is a “jealous mistress” that will take up a
lot of your personal time. Be prepared for the impending workload and
copious amount of stress but know that if your purpose and goal is clear,
you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. In the throes of hardship,
don’t forget to also enjoy every challenge/obstacle you face as each one
will make you not only a better lawyer but more importantly, a better
person.
