he / she passes on to you and receive remuneration for doing so . A career like such offers minimal personal growth and will definitely not meet any values that you are looking for , or maybe just money .
On the other hand , if your boss is someone who guides you along the way , offering mentorship and giving you opportunities to work on bigger projects etc , then it is a career that is much more fulfilling . That ’ s because it will offer you much more value in the long run , a longer “ runway .”
To me , this is a crucial factor that you must take it into account when determining your career path .
3 . Your view vs people ’ s view
Literally “ Haters gonna hate ”, that ’ s the best example I can give for my 3rd pointer . Do not ever , venture into something you do not like just because someone think you should , or just because “ it ’ s what everyone else is doing .”
Your future path should only be determined by you and no one else . You can seek for their opinions but do remember , we are talking about your life and not theirs . Learn to listen and then evaluate what ’ s useful and important to you .
To sum it all up , choosing a career is not a small matter . It could affect 5 or 10 or 20 years of your life . My thought process roughly went in a fashion as stated below : Values that I seek : To expand my skillsets and experience to run my own business eventually
Working environment : Colleagues and my boss are super supporting . They are willing to give me a few paid leave just to attend events to widen my knowledge . I am also able to handle larger projects and come out with important business decision for the company . I ’ m constantly reminded that I ’ m viewed as a person that will play a big role in the future of the company , not just an employee . This helps me to retain a very positive mindset and keeps me going all the time .
My social circle : Thankfully my parents and friends are supportive . But partly that ’ s also because I showed and explained to them over a cup of coffee for hours , sharing my future plans and my vision for myself . Don ’ t be afraid to share your thoughts ! With that out of the way , I was asked to also answer the following question : “ What can a law graduate do other than practicing ?”
