But what I realized is as important, and this applies to whatever line of work you may find yourself in, is being able to work, deal with and adapt to all types of people, characters and their idiosyncrasies and being able to communicate diplomatically but effectively without being influenced by your personal emotions and judgment. I also cannot stress more on how important it is to build and continue to develop a good character; tolerant, collected, well-read, knowledgeable, morally conscious, eloquent and confident but not arrogant. These personality or character traits may all sound very trivial but all of them will go a long way in earning the trust and respect anywhere you go. Will I ever go back to a law firm? No one really knows what will happen in the future but I like the idea and the drive I get from working for a company where everyone is working towards the same business, goal and objective. As opposed to being in a law firm where your main objective is to provide legal advice but to multitude of clients with different needs, issues, goals and objectives. For those who are unsure of which path to take, take any opportunity you can get to learn and study the options that you have. By that I mean, do your research on the job you are interested in. You may already have something that you lean more towards, but do a thorough check as to what the job entails, the expected working lifestyle, the type of company you would be able to enter into, the income rate, the prospect of career progression and compare itto other jobs that you may have in mind. Talk to different people who are already in that line of work. Keep in mind that sometimes what you like or where your interest lies may not necessarily be good or suitable for you. I would still give the same advice I give to those who have set their mind to leave the legal field. Make sure that you have done thorough research on what is to be expected in the field you are planning to jump in. You can always begin your career in the legal field at whatever stage of your life but this may mean starting at ground zero (at chambering stage) which may not be a comfortable option (financial wise) to some.
