TED BATMAN COLLEGE / 9-A Development of Gene Regulation Büşra BASIN In the last 66 years we have discovered DNA, and we know how it works there are machines to show how it is read. In the last 6 years we have developed some tools and methods to manipulate genes. In the future, there will be machines to design unborn babies by using these methods. We have some gene regulations. The first one is called Gene Therapy. In 1980, we started to do that. This aim of the operation is to cure gene diseases. And then in 2004 we started to do Gene Doping that has improved the features of some species. Gene regulations in 1980 and 2004 are called Somatic Gene Regulation. These are applied in cells of higher organisation if you benefit from it. In 2018, the world’s first designed babies were born in China but their doctors said that their genes have just changed to improve them. They have immunity to HIV. They are not going to get AIDS for the rest of their lives. Their kids will not have AIDS either because this gene regulation is called Germline Gene Regulation. In 2000 “Human Genome Project” finished. Gene map extracted. Thus, humankind can be informed about genes so some methods and tools can be improved. In other words, Humanity can succeed in Genes Babies in the future.
