ON PROJECT OWNERS’ DESKS R260-million Free State military programme Project: Refurbishment Client: Department of Defence Location: Tempe, Free State and water reticulation system, at a cost of around R260- million. The project is set to take about three years. The IDT is implementing the works at the 1 SA Infantry Battalion for about R145-million and for about R110-million at the 44 Parachute Regiment on a contract duration of about 40 months. The Department of Defence is undertaking a multibillion- rand refurbishment programme of its facilities at several military bases across the country, and the Independent Development Trust (IDT) is in the thick of things at the Tempe Military Base in Bloemfontein. According to its Annual Performance Plans for the 2017/18 financial year, the department’s infrastructure programme will focus on expanding and maintaining its infrastructure and this includes the construction and refurbishment of military health facilities; military bases and units; and improvements to accommodation, kitchen, and security facilities, over the medium term. The scope of work includes the demolition of some facilities, construction, painting, ceiling, flooring, plumbing, and electrical work, as well as paving and replacing an existing precast concrete fence and refurbishing the sewer The IDT was appointed to implement two major refurbishments of facilities and civil services at the Tempe military base. (Image is illustrative.) Tshwane Regional Mall Project: Retail, transport terminal Client: Private sector Location: Pretoria, Gauteng A multi-level shopping centre is set for Pretoria. The development will have structured taxi facility areas located next to the Denneboom train station in Tsamaya Road. It will be located on erven 35385 extension 13 40331 and 40332, Extension 24, Mamelodi, Pretoria, Gauteng. The shopping mall is approximately 53 155m² gross lettable area and approximately 146 000m² gross building area, which includes an upper covered parking level. It consists of one main retail ground floor with lower ground level that includes a retail portion with a taxi rank on the eastern side and a double-storey taxi structure on the western side. The gym is situated on the upper covered parking level. The works entail piling, structural concrete work, brickwork, alternative walling system, plastering, and finishing work, including specialist services, site services, roads, landscaping, and related site works.
