Technology impacts our lives daily. As students, a big part of our time is spent at school, and the advances in technology have definitely influenced our education and knowledge.

Because of technology, education today is very different from 20 years ago. The Internet was officially introduced to the public in the early 1990s, and since then it has slowly changed school systems across the country. Education used to include a lot of memorization, but today, with the constant access to information, “knowledge” is not that important anymore. In fact, many older people believe the newer generations are “not as smart” as the generations before the Internet. But why?

See, if knowledge is the basis of all discoveries and inventions, will the supposed decreased knowledge of the coming generation lessen the amount of advances that will be made in the future? If the answer is yes, then this would mean the people who have less access to technology currently may be the leaders of our generation in the future.

The confusing part of all this? We actually have the knowledge we need to achieve great things, although it may not be directly in our brains, we have access to it any time we want. Technology also gives us a chance to get recent information, which was not possible in past.

Although it may be true that we have less knowledge in our brains today due to technology, we actually have access to more at the touch of our fingertips. Technology has played a huge role in globalization and has given us information of the world we live in, which may be much more important than the old-school knowledge of history, literature and science. These topics are very important and should be taught, but technology gives us the chance to learn about current issues and gives us more access to people around the world. It gives us the opportunity to learn that not everyone is as fortunate as we are.

The world has changed a great deal and is still changing today. We have gained many useful things that our parents and grandparents did not have as children

Personally, I believe that technology is a good thing and can help teach students more useful information and skills, instead of old-school memorization that we won’t ever actually use.
