THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 17 May 2019 Charbonneau Arts Association By ERIC HOEM CHARBONNEAU ARTS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT Elaine Swyt joins Charbonneau Arts Association Board One of the challenges facing any organization is succession. Periodically there needs to be a change- over in personnel in order to maintain the level of energy needed to accomplish the organization’s goals and also to avoid burning out volunteers and losing their involvement. The Charbonneau Arts Association is beginning to face that challenge at the level of its board of directors. Very fortunately, talented individuals are stepping forward to continue the efforts of those rotating off. This is the way that organizational renewal and continuation can be achieved. Case in point: Dick Miller, one of original board members, retired last month. As an artist and retired engineer, Miller brought a unique set of skills to our organization. His sensible approach and well-grounded advice will be missed. Very fortunately, Elaine Swyt has agreed to join the board of directors. Like Miller she is an artist — in her case, fine photography — and she brings a 48-year career in private and public sector to our association Swyt is no stranger in Charbonneau. Currently, she is editor of the website CharbonneauLive.com and she serves on the Communications Engagement Task Force for the country club. Swyt is also Communications Board Director for both the Charbonneau Women’s Association and Boys and Girls Aid, Cypress Auxiliary. Swyt is no stranger to us either. She has worked on our annual Charbonneau Arts Festival since 2013, serving as silent auction chair. She has grown our silent auction into a major fundraiser for us. In addition, Swyt has exhibited her photography in the gallery portion of the festival and has earned People’s Choice Awards twice. Swyt has also been our webmaster since starting our website in 2013, and she has See ELAINE SWYT / Page 19 Sunshine Service By JOAN VEDDER Don’t forget you have complete access to our medical equipment Well, I’m assuming it really IS spring? April brought an awful lot of rain and it sure spoiled a lot of the beautiful things that bloomed all around us, but I’m constantly reminded “we need the rain!” I was put to the test in March, heading up the “Sunshine” group of Charbonneau........from the first day of the month until the last, our household suddenly fell into the ‘medical needs’ hole. My husband — being the patient — and myself — being the nurse — had to navigate areas that until now, I had been giving advice and comfort to OTHERS! Our house made room for a walker, a wheelchair, a shower bench, a bed rail, a cane, etc. Each piece of equipment served a valuable purpose and it became very clear to us that the Sunshine Service is an amazing ‘gift’ to the Charbonneau residents. Everybody living here has complete access to all that we have in stock, for NO charge. It eases your mind at a time when you, no doubt, already have plenty to think about. We have lots of volunteers who can help you from Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please remember that you can even plan a week or so in advance if you are planning surgery? So much better to have equipment already in place when you return home from a hospital stay. As always, please remember to return things to us in a reasonable time, and we do appreciate a small donation to help us keep our equipment in good condition and/ or replace things. ■ Mother’s Day Royal Mother’s T Day Royal Tea & Michael Allen Harrison chael Allen Harrison Concert Mother’s Day Royal Tea & Michael Allen Harrison Concert Sunday May 12 th 1:00 PM – 4:0 Sunday May 12 th 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM Tickets $69 Per Person Tickets $69 Per Person Make you reservations today o Make you reservations today online www.pioneerchapel.net www.pioneerchapel.net Sunday May 12th 1:00 PM Seating – 4:00 Available PM Limited Seating Available Limited Our Royal Tea Provided by… $69 Tickets Royal Tea Provided by… Per Our Person Make you reservations today online at www.pioneerchapel.net Limited Seating Available Our Royal Tea Provided by… Presented by Canby Pioneer Chapel 508 NW 3 rd Aveanue nted by Canby Pioneer Chapel 508 NW 3 rd Aveanue Canby OR 97013 Presented by Canby Pioneer Chapel 508 NW 3 rd Aveanue Canby OR 97013
