THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 7 March 2019 Charbonneau Women’s Association By ANNE SHEVLIN CHARBONNEAU WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION CO-PRESIDENT Sign up early for fashion show, meet breast cancer expert at lunch Breast Cancer Research Our March luncheon will feature Dr. Zahi Mitri from Oregon Health and Science University, who specializes in caring for adults with breast cancer and early-phase clinical trials. He is an assistant professor at the OHSU school of medicine. Dr. Mitri enjoys caring for his patients, and is dedicated to providing the best available therapies. He is also invested in research aimed at discovery and development of novel therapeutics aimed at improving outcomes for his patients. Currently Dr. Mitri and his team of professionals are utilizing the SMMART (Serial Measurements of Molecular and Architectural Responses to Therapy) approach to study each case of metastatic breast cancer, the most dangerous type of breast cancer. This new approach makes it possible to study each person's tumor in great detail, track how cancer cells evolve in response to treatment and use the information to select combinations of drugs tailored for the individual. In his spare time, Dr. Mitri and his family love exploring the beautiful Northwest outdoors. He frequently takes trips around the state, to wine country, the coast or the interior to explore the wonderful scenery. He enjoys hiking, biking and skiing. He is a big sports fan, supports and follows local teams closely. He also enjoys the wonderful and diverse food scene that Portland has to offer. Please join us at the clubhouse on Monday, March 11 at 11:30 a.m. for an informative luncheon with Dr. Mitri. The cost for the luncheon is $20 for CWA members and $25 for guests.
