THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 3 March 2019 CCC President’s report By TONY HOLT CHARBONNEAU COUNTRY CLUB PRESIDENT Holt to step down in May I have decided that it would be prudent, due to some medical challenges, to resign as president of CCC. I will continue to serve as a director until my term is up in May. I have been fortunate to spend 12 years on the CCC Board (six years, a year off and another 6 years). During that time I was lucky to serve under presidents Alex McPhail, Tom Sullivan, Rick Sawyer, Gene Pronovost and Joan Buccino. I was struck by how little animosity there was between members despite the complexity of the issues. The best boards were those that debated the opportunities, compromised on the main objectives and set the priorities. They then worked as a team to fulfill them, without distraction from outside forces or arguments about process. It has been fun. One important aspect of the CCC Board duties, often forgotten, is to be the visionary for this community. We do a great job of preserving our assets, have adequate reserve funds to do that and a reserve process to forecast when and by how much we need to accomplish this. But what about our future? Apart from the Garden Terrace addition, the last significant update to our 1970s and 1980s infrastructure was the addition of the dining and card rooms in about 1990 — almost 30 years ago. We need to think about not just having sufficient and adequate facilities for today, but also plan for a future where we can attract new and younger residents to an updated Charbonneau, residents who demand new activities in a modern environment. Finally, I’d like to comment on the upcoming election of new CCC Board members in April/May. There will be three positions open. Two of the current Board members are term limited and cannot run again. One member can run for another 3-year term. The Board has decided to modify the procedure this year. After an initial interview, any approved candidate will be added to the ballot. That means you may have a choice of more than three candidates for three positions. However many candidates there may be, I urge you to carefully consider which ones would be a benefit to the Board. In my opinion we need diversity, not just a female/male diversity, but diversity from our local HOAs (as many different ones involved as possible) and diversity of backgrounds also. It is great to have an accountant or attorney on the Board, but we need to balance that with someone from the arts, perhaps a business manager or a nonprofit leader. Most of all we need team players. Please choose very carefully. Finally, thank you for your great support over the years! ■ Portland’s Premier Window Coverings and Design Expert Our goal is to work creatively with our clients to draw upon their own personal style and guide them in creating a beautiful, unique and personal environment. And have you wondered how you can help make things happen, or stop them from happening? You’ll get the answers to those questions and more by attending Legislature 101, a special two- hour workshop being sponsored by the Charbonneau Country Club’s Civic Affairs Committee. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 13, from 4- 6 pm. at the Charbonneau Country Club. It will be presented by Greg Leo of the Leo Company, the CCC’s government affairs consulting firm. In addition to learning about the processes that legislators, lobbyists and individuals must follow, participants will learn specific techniques for submitting both oral and written testimony when issues of importance to Charbonneau arise. There is no charge for this workshop, but to assist the presenters in preparing sufficient handout material, you are asked to RSVP to the CCC office. ■ Charbonneau Country Club Easter Egg Hunt Reservation Saturday, April 20 9:30 am (Pre-hunt Activities at 9:30 / Egg hunt begins at 10:00) Ages 1-6 Name: _______________________________________________________ Age: ___________________ Name: _______________________________________________________ Age: ___________________  Serving clients in the Pacific Northwest for over 25 years.
