THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 27 February 2019 Charbonneau Homeowner’s Association By JAN LANDIS CHARBONNEAU HOMEOWNER’S ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT In my last year as CHOA president I plan on working on the future of the golf course. The ambiance of Charbonneau is the golf course, and for me one of the reasons I moved here and love getting up each day to look at this beautiful area. Right now because of the efforts of the Golf Course Board and the golf course staff our golf course is the best it’s been for some time. Reports in the Villager would suggest that there is a renewed effort of CCC and the Golf Board to work on solutions. A song that I just added to my exercise class is: “Where There’s Love” Bryan Duncan. The words of this song are: “Where there is love there is hope Grab a Friend and get a rope Pull together” Scholarships ■ From Page 9 interests and activities, grades, recommendations and more. (Mother Theresa) What we do at the Cypress Branch of Boys and Girls Aid is done with great LOVE. We love what we do; many small things, when all put together, actually become great. We are part of The Portland Boys and Girls Aid founded in the late 1800s which has been doing great things ever since. Among their services are: ■ Seneca House caring for teenage girls. ■ The Nest caring for children from birth to age 8 that the State previously placed in hotel rooms. ■ TLP and Compass providing instruction and equipment needed by young adults in order to live on their own. ■ Safe Place providing for otherwise homeless youth from 12-19 with a drop in place or a place to stay until permanent arrangements are found. ■ Providing adoption service from birth through teen years. ■ Finding foster care that will ADVERTISE IN THE VILLAGER! The scholarship committee is very grateful for the support and anticipate the program will continue indefinitely. ■ Cypress Boys and Girls Aid last. These programs work because they are staffed with trained counselors. Families and children are carefully screened and counseled before and after adoption and foster care placement. The folks at Boys and Girls Aid are very good at what they do. The Cypress Branch of Boys and Girls Aid supports these efforts with time, talent and donations. Each month we meet for a luncheon at SpringRidge. The next one is Feb. 15 at 11:30. Cost is $15 at the door. Visitors and guests are welcome. At each luncheon we hear about all that is going on and what is new at Boys and Girls Aid. For further information about the luncheon call Cherie Sanville at 503-694-5826. The Boys and Girls Aid Crab and Rib Dinner every spring is something that Charbonneau is known for. Our members each donate an hour here, or an hour there; some donate many hours to make this the success it has always been. Why do we all do this? It is because we LOVE to. Our efforts help boys and girls to find a forever home, or really good foster care, or develop the skills needed to be on their own. The small acts of each of our members amount to a great deal of LOVE felt by each child we serve. For more information about Boys and Girls Aid please visit our website www.boysandgirlsaid.org. Inside the Villager New year, new management — Page 8 I remember “Together we can do it” and how it helped sustain our golf course for additional years. Now is the time to “pull together” on behalf of this beautiful amenity. The golf course will be an agenda item for the CHOA board this whole year. We need to keep the conversation going. I am excited to welcome to CHOA our new board members: Packard Phillips and Doug Parker. Packard comes to us from New Orleans where he practiced law as senior partner and worked for giant corporations like P&G and McCann-Ericson. He has an MBA and a JD and 13 years of experience teaching marketing and business management at undergrad and graduate level. He also has experience as a real estate investor. Doug is a four-year Charbonneau resident. He and Janice moved to Charbonneau from Lake Oswego and before that, enjoyed many years living in Anchorage, Alaska. Along with their golden retriever, George, and several cats, they live on Sacajawea at the Red 7/8 water hazard. Doug is a management labor lawyer and heads the Portland and Alaska offices of international labor law firm Littler Mendelson, P.C. He and Janice enjoying spending time with their two children and their families (three granddaughters) who live nearby.  ■ With love in their hearts — Page 6 JON HOUSE PAMPLIN MEDIA GROUP PHOTO: 971-204-7774 [email protected]
