THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 21 April 2019 Wilsonville Public Library By GREG MARTIN ADULT SERVICES LIBRARIAN Learn about Oregon’s rich history at HIstory Pub April 30 A happy April to all. Will this finally be the month that spring truly arrives? Stay tuned! Here's what's happening this month on the adult side of the Library: ■ Free Tax Help continues this month, until it's too late! Visit on the first two Saturdays — the 6th and 13th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No reservations necessary, but it may be crowded, so we suggest you arrive early. For best results, don't forget to bring your 2017 tax return and associated documents with you. ■ On Friday, April 5, at 6 p.m., our First Friday Film program trickles down, as would a refreshing spring rain. This month, we'll be screening a dramatic film about a fictional character, Dr. Don Shirley, a world- class African-American pianist, who is about to embark on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962. In need of a driver and protection, Shirley recruits Tony Lip, a tough-talking bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx. Despite their differences, the two men develop a bond while confronting racism and danger in an era of segregation. If you can't figure out the title of this film, give us a call at the library, and we'll quietly tell you! Free admission, and we've even got snacks! ■ Do you know someone who would like to brush up on English? Please tell them about our new English Conversation Group. Every Monday evening (April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29), beginning at 6 p.m.) participants can drop in to learn and practice English in this free, informal class. Speakers of any language and any English comprehensive level are welcome, and no registration is required. ■ Also for English-learners, we have an ESL class that meets on Thursdays, April 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The class is conducted informally by an experienced ESL instructor. No pre- registration is required and the class is free. Call Deborah Gitlitz (ella habla español) for further information — 503-570-1582. ■ On Tuesday, April 9, at 6 p.m., our Great Books Discussion Group gathers. Are you interested in philosophy and the big questions of life? Join us each month for a roundtable discussion of how modern day issues are reflected and illuminated by the great Western classic books. This month, we'll be discussing "The Inferno," by Dante Alighieri. Call or email us to join our Great Books e-mailing list and receive monthly scans of our readings. ■ Do you need information for yourself, a friend or loved one about what services and programs are available for older adults, people with disabilities and veterans? Are you looking for meaningful volunteer work? Have you become overwhelmed with understanding Medicare, caring for a relative, planning for long-term care or worry for someone's safety? Do you know where to start looking for help? On Wednesday, April 10, at 6:30 p.m., come learn about the types of private and public resources available to individuals looking for assistance and about the Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC), a free central source of information for all income levels. Sign up at the circulation desk (no charge) to reserve your seat! Presented by Clackamas County Social Services. ■ On Saturday, April 13, at 2 p.m., our very popular BookNotes concert series will take the stage. This time, we're featuring Paema, a women's ensemble who perform for the enjoyment of harmony and sharing their love of music. Their broad repertoire stems from that of holiday — both sacred and secular, classic art songs, to contemporary and Broadway. Come to this free event and hear their lovely, dulcet tones echo throughout the library! ■ Hooray! It's the Genealogy Club, meeting again on Monday, April 15, at 1 p.m., which, fittingly, just happens to be both tax AND genealogy day! Join Malia at 1 p.m. for helpful tips and tricks for all levels from beginners to seasoned genealogists. Discover new genealogical resources and tools, discuss personal research and goals, and learn from others! ■ (VFRUWHG7RXUV (QMR\WKHIULHQGO\IDPLO\DWPRVSKHUH RIJURXSWUDYHO([SORUHIDPRXVFLWLHVDQGVLJKWV 2XUWRXUVDUHGHVLJQHGZLWKDORYHRIGLVFRYHU\ ([SHULHQFHWUXO\KDVVOHIUHHYDFDWLRQV« 6QDNH5LYHU WKH7UL&LW\¶V±$SULO 4XLQDXOW2FHDQ6KRUHV 0RUH±0D\ 3KLOO\ *HWW\VEXUJ±0D\ 1(2UHJRQ %H\RQG±-XQH 0W5DLQLHU 6W+HOHQV±-XQH 0DFNLQDF,VODQG 0LFKLJDQ±-XO\ 0RQWUHDO 4XHEHF&LW\±-XO\ 5HGZRRG&RDVW±$XJ 6RXWK'DNRWD±$XJ6HS WKH$UWRI,WDO\±6HS2FW Ăůů&ŽƌĞƚĂŝůƐŽƌ^ĞĞhƐƚ͘͘͘ ZZZRUZHVWFRP Portland’s Premier Window Coverings and Design Expert Our goal is to work creatively with our clients to draw upon their own personal style and guide them in creating a beautiful, unique and personal environment.
