2 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER April 2019 CCC President’s report HAPPY EASTER By KATHY HARP CHARBONNEAU COUNTRY CLUB PRESIDENT Welcome the new president of the Charbonneau Country Club board of directors It is an honor for me to have been elected by our CCC Board to finish Tony Holt's term as President. I am grateful that Tony is able to continue serving as a board director until his term is completed in mid-May. His expertise, knowledge and insights are invaluable to our entire board and community. Our thoughts and prayers have been with Tony and his family these past months. Just a little background on me. I am a retired elementary/middle school principal. My husband, Gene, and I moved to Charbonneau in the fall of 2011. I have served on the CCC Board since 2014. These past several years I have held the office of vice president and chair of architectural control. As we move into spring, the CCC Board continues working with Heather Coston and the Community Engagement Task Force which was formed to encourage community participation in the Charbonneau Facilities Improvement Project. Our main focus will be to make sure that all residents are aware of the project and have opportunities to provide input on the decision making. This is the perfect time for all of us to reflect on the current and future needs of our community. For several months now I have joined Tony Holt, along with Joe Brouillette and Gene Tish from the Charbonneau Golf Club Board (CGC), in brainstorming sessions on how we can all work together to plan for the future of Charbonneau. These gentlemen are extremely knowledgeable and positive about the direction for our Golf Course and entire community. Our most recent endeavor resulted in plans for Charbonneau Golf Course to add a cover over our Garden Terrace. This will allow for the Golf Course to add weddings and more tournaments to the multiple activities they already sponsor. It is a win/win opportunity for our entire community. I am hopeful that by the time this article is published, construction will have already begun. This is just the beginning of what is possible when we all work together for the common interests of our entire community. We have a great team focusing on our future here in Charbonneau. The CCC Annual Meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the clubhouse. A meeting announcement and ballot for board director positions will soon be in the mail. The CCC Nominating Committee will be interviewing all candidates who have applied. This year the committee is comprised of past CCC President Bill Riggs, current CCC Director Kamran Mesbah and resident Joann Linville. Board directors are elected for a three-year term. Please return your ballots to the CCC office before the May 15 deadline. If you have questions about any board programs, please do not hesitate to contact me. Wishing you all a Happy Easter! ■ Civic Affairs By BOB HARLAND Members cultivating relationships with area lawmakers, decision makers The Civic Affairs Committee has been meeting regularly since last fall and as often as every two weeks since the first of the year. Our government affairs consultant provides updates at each meeting and reports to the chair every week by phone. To date in 2019, it has not been necessary to mobilize members of the community to submit testimony or to provide comment in person at a legislative hearing. At the same time, it was necessary to provide testimony at a hearing of the Oregon Aviation Board held February 12. The Committee has made a concerted effort to cultivate relationships with area lawmakers in order to ensure that we will be heard on issues of importance to Charbonneau residents. So far, this effort has been very successful. An important matter discussed with all of these elected officials is a possible southbound auxiliary lane on I-5 from the Wilsonville on-ramp to the Canby exit. Our consultant believes there is a chance that the Legislature might appropriate the requisite amount of money (believed to be approximately $3.7 million) to allow for application to the federal government for a grant to fund this project. We also make an effort to ensure that our interests related to the possible expansion of the Aurora State Airport are known to all elected officials. ■ Target Charbonneau and beyond Promote your business to neighbors in your community and beyond, fast, effectively and affordably.
