POSITIVE BUSINESS

Skydiving for Charity

Ten People against Poverty supporters took to the skies on Saturday July 8 , jumping 13,500ft out of a plane to raise vital funds for the charity .
The People against Poverty supporters after their skydive
The skydive was organised as part of the charity ’ s 14th birthday celebrations and took place at Skydive Netheravon , the home of the Army Parachute Association and the Red Devils . Those who took part were instructed by some of the best military instructors in the country , many taking themselves entirely out of their comfort zone for the cause .
Of the ten people that jumped , seven of them were from the charity ’ s business networking group Business against Poverty , with companies taking part from across Wiltshire . Including Lyndon Beer , jumping on behalf of LGB Electrical , Lucy Dando and Danielle Pettit of 24:7 Staffing , Claire Anello of Utility Warehouse , Rory Stewart of Ali Stewart and Co and Jane Forey of Infinity FS . Helen McTaggart , Clare Flanagan , Lucy Oviedo Salmon and Claire Hembrough also jumped as part of a personal challenge , as did Laura Huxley , daughter of Val and Bill
Huxley , founders of People against Poverty . Danielle Pettit of 24:7 Staffing said : “ Anybody who knows me well enough , will know that jumping out of a plane – regardless of how many feet high , is something I wouldn ’ t choose to do in a million years . However , my recent awareness trip to Romania has changed my outlook on life . It was a real eye opener .” 24:7 ’ s Lucy Dando added : “ It was a fantastic experience . It was a great team of people and we all supported one another through it . I think both Danielle and I would both do it again !”
Claire Anello from Utility Warehouse commented : “ At the moment of falling out of the plane I was both terrified and exhilarated . Now I keep looking at the sky and thinking WOW !”
Each skydiver had to raise a minimum of £ 400 in sponsorship to participate in the jump .
People against Poverty CEO Val Huxley said : “ The event raised over £ 3k and this means that we can run most of our programmes across the world in Nepal , Haiti , India , Malawi and Tanzania fully for one month . 1000s of children and adults will benefit from food , clothing and training programmes . It will also ensure their medical needs are met , children ’ s educational needs are supplied and the administration costs are paid to run the projects in each country . We cannot thank all our skydivers enough for their brave decision to do this for People against Poverty .”
The charity is now gearing up for the Business against Poverty annual ball taking place on Saturday November 25 , 2017 at Bailbrook House Hotel near Bath . The occasion is a great opportunity to meet with other people and organisations with the same values . This year for the first time the ball has a masquerade theme . The night will include a three-course meal with wine , a charity auction , raffle and live band . Business against Poverty will also announce their member of the year . The event is always a sell out , so businesses are encouraged to book their tickets now to avoid disappointment . PROPERTY SEARCH GROUP ANNOUNCES SPECS APPEAL

In Property Search Group ’ s 20th year , 3 of its South West offices have joined forces with the launch of the # V20 campaign to raise money for international charity Vision Aid Overseas .
In celebration of World Sight Day , PSG ’ s teams based in Swindon , Wiltshire and Plymouth are planning to visit law firms across the region to collect old spectacles for recycling . Vision Aid takes the glasses and recycles them for precious metal content , with the income generated used to build vision centres , train local eye care workers and deliver eye care services in remote or isolated communities .
Elaine Connor at PSG Swindon said :“ Following on from the successful Southernhay Life initiative , which raised over £ 2,500 for Devon Community Foundation , we recently started working with Vision Aid Overseas . We were compelled to help after hearing that just £ 5 provides a person in Africa with an eye tests and a pair of glasses . Such a small amount to most people , but with a life changing impact .
“ We have just launched the campaign at last month ’ s Solicitors Group events , with attendees taking part in a sensory box experience by donating money to VAO . We are now looking forward to October when we will be visiting law firms to collect their old specs . In addition to raising money , we
@ elaineconnorPSG
will also be having lots of fun on the day and have a few surprises up our sleeves !” The leading independent provider of quality conveyancing searches in England and Wales , PSG has more local offices than any other provider and an unrivalled product portfolio . PSG ’ s professional consultants also have excellent local authority relationships and offer the highest customer service by meeting tight deadlines , offering bespoke solutions and getting the best results for their customers , whatever the transaction .
Elaine added : “ What sets us apart from our competitors is the priority we place on building local relationships and taking the time to understand and support the communities in which we live and work . Bringing people together for the # V20 campaign is a perfect example of this ethos .”
