SMALL BUSINESS FOCUS

Notes from the back room ...
Bath , Somerset and the South West has long been seen as a creative hub . Whether that creativity is demonstrated through pure arts such as theatre , fine art , music , ceramics , publishing and street art or through entrepreneurship and business mentality .
Micro-breweries , tech and design , theatre companies and artists . Yes we have all of those , we also have companies like Dyson , a design and concept leader worldwide , Lovehoney , one of the newest international companies created in Bath and a new community asset : the TheatreBus . Our city has been referred to by some as the ‘ Graveyard of Ambition ’. I have never seen this as a negative term . There is something about this unique city that makes people want to stay , no matter who or what brought them here . The promise of promotions and pay rises to entice us to leave and take a higher ranked role in another city just doesn ’ t cut it . Bath is where so many of us have not only discovered our creativity but more importantly it is where we have found an outlet for this creativity , and a community that actively encourages us to explore it .
What Bath can show to other cities is that this feeling of freedom to explore and draw out even the slightest iota of creativity can achieve more than simply providing space in the form of studios and R & D sites .
