Faculty Conduct Special Needs Dentistry CE Course
Drs . Gary Goldstein , AEGD Associate Director-Upstate New York and faculty member Vincent Filanova provided a continuing educational opportunity to NYU Lutheran Dental residents in August 2015 . The course , entitled “ Techniques for Treating Patients With Special Needs ,” provided 3 CE credits and was designed to help dentists overcome obstacles in order to treat patients who present with a developmental or physical disability . Often , such treatment requires only minor adjustments in dentist / patient interactions .
••• Dental Public Health Director Presents Poster at CHI
Dr . Jay Balzer , Director of the Dental Public Health ( DPH ) residency at NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine , presented a poster , by invitation , about NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine residency programs at the Community Health Institute , hosted by the National Association of Community Health Centers ( NACHC ), in August 2015 . The annual event brings together thousands of health center clinicians , administrators and board members from across the nation , and the 2015 session commemorated the 50th anniversary of the community health center movement that started as part of President Lyndon Johnson ' s ‘ War on Poverty .’
••• Senior Associate Director Presents at University of New England
Dr . Linda Kotmel , Senior Associate Director-Northeast Zone was joined by Becky Herman , Director of Recruitment and Community Outreach , to present to students at the University of New England ( UNE ) and tour the new AEGD residency facilities there . UNE will graduate its first dental class in June 2017 and begin the NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine AEGD Program with eight residents . Associate Director Dr . Elias Chatah will oversee the program .

Senior Associate Directors Present to South Carolina Dental Students
NYU Lutheran Dental Medicine Senior Associate Directors Drs . Calix Ramos-Rodriguez , David Stillwell , Linda Kotmel , and Anthony Caputo , along with Becky Herman , Director of Recruitment and Community Outreach , conducted a lunch and learn presentation for dental students attending the Medical University of South Carolina in December 2015 . A luncheon followed at the Ryder Cup Restaurant .
